Ips and Black Turpentine Beetles: Nashville’s Other Pine Killers
Nashville homeowners with pines have probably heard of the southern pine beetle (Dendroctonus frontalis). It’s the one that makes headlines
Whether you’re battling English ivy, privet, Japanese honeysuckle, or any other invasive species, professional assistance is often required to win the fight. The AKA Tree Service team provides expert invasive plant management services to control unwanted vegetation and restore your landscape.
One of the most frustrating things about invasive species is the speed with which they can take over a property. One day, you only see a few shoots coming up, and before you know it, you’re facing a property you no longer recognize.
And because most invasive species are difficult for homeowners and property managers to control, they often end up facing problems like:
These kinds of problems tend to get worse over time, so it’s important to secure the kind of expert assistance needed to tackle invasive species problems.
To keep your property safe, beautiful, and accessible, you need more than a guy with a truck and a chainsaw. You need a trained team that understands the risks trees can present, follows safe work practices, and treats your property with care.
That’s exactly what you get when you rely on the experts at AKA Tree Service.
We follow ANSI A300 standards and provide expert guidance and tree care.
We prioritize safe work practices that protect people and property.

I’ve been using AKA Tree Service for many years. They continue to provide consistent high-quality service for very large jobs. They have removed hundred foot plus Trees from around sheds, fences and Pole Barnes. I recently paid them their whole day rate, since I had so many trees. They were here From 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. They cut down 12 trees, one of them 130 feet tall and did an excellent job cleaning everything up.Posted on Google![]()

For years, I relied on the same local tree service when I needed a tree removed, that is, until recently, when their estimate seemed unusually exorbitant. A friend recommended AKA Tree Service and I could not have been more fortunate. From the moment I first met Chandler for an on-site estimate, they provided nothing but fantastic service. Chandler is friendly, polite, thorough and knowledgeable. Without asking, he provided me with all of their insurance and licensing information, explained their approach for the job, worked with me on minute details and schedules and kept me apprised as we worked toward completion of the job. Their ops manager Joy then provided a follow up visit to ensure the proper equipment was planned to be on site as needed. Finally, Vladimir, Pablo and René came out for the actual removal and removed 3 huge white pine trees (and I mean HUGE!) piece by piece, limb by limb. By the time they had finished, you could not even tell they were here! The job site was immaculate, they hauled off every single twig and left my property in amazing shape, disturbing hardly anything along the way. On top of all this, they were about the nicest crew I have ever had the pleasure of working with. With all this said, I could not recommend AKA Tree Service any higher. Simply the best and I wish them well as they grow their business into my neck of the woods.Posted on Google![]()

AKA tree Service is a great company with which to work. They have a very knowledgeable certified arborist on staff (shout out to Chandler!) who gave us much peace of mind of the work needed and stayed in touch with us throughout the job. The crews came on time, worked hard, were polite and professional, did exactly what we had contracted to have done, did not tear up our yard, and cleaned the whole area before leaving. We are very pleased with the exceptional job done by AKA Tree Service.Posted on Google![]()

AKA TREE SERVICE-The crew of 3 experienced men did a wonderful job in helping us with major pruning and the removal of several substantial bushes which had grown beyond my reach. Their equipment was first rate as evidenced by some of the work requiring the use of a lift to reach growth that was close to 20 feet high. They cleared up all of the debris, ran their chipper and as I requested dumped the full load of chips exactly where I needed. They were safety conscious and worked with clear focus on the specific areas. I highly recommend their services.Posted on Google![]()

Finding a tree-service company that responds in a timely manner and then actually does the work proved to be more challenging than we expected. The AKA Tree Service crew proved that it can be done! Taylor is the sales person we dealt with, and he was professional from the get-go. With the winter weather we've been having, getting the crew scheduled to come out took a little doing, but they were still out within a week of booking the service. They arrived early, finished the work, and left our yard in great condition. We would use AKA Tree Service again.Posted on Yelp![]()

“Invasive plants can literally overrun a property if they aren’t managed properly. And the longer you wait to address them, the more difficult they usually become to control.”
Contact us to request your free onsite estimate.
Meet with our team and receive a custom tree care plan.
Enjoy peace of mind knowing your property is in expert hands.
Invasive plants vary in several ways, including the manner in which they grow, spread, and respond to treatment. That means there’s no single approach that works for every property or every species.
That’s also the reason the AKA Tree Service team always develops a tailored plan for every invasive plant management project we begin. Depending on the specifics of the situation, this may include:
Some invasive plants can be controlled by physically removing, cutting, or mowing the unwanted vegetation. The appropriate technique depends on the specific invasive species you’re fighting, its size, and the extent of the infestation.
Foliar applications involve the careful application of selected herbicides to the leaves of the invasive plants that are causing problems. This approach can be effective for managing many actively growing invasive species, particularly when infestations are too extensive for manual removal.
Simply cutting invasive shrubs, vines, and small trees often allows them to resprout from the remaining stump or root system. But we can apply herbicides to freshly cut stems to help prevent regrowth and provide more effective long-term control.
For some woody invasive plants, herbicides can be applied directly to the lower portion of the stem or trunk. Called a basal bark treatment, this technique can provide targeted control without requiring the entire plant to be sprayed or immediately cut down.
Invasive vines such as English ivy and Japanese honeysuckle can spread across the ground, climb trees, and overwhelm desirable vegetation. Our team can develop a management strategy to control these invasive vines while minimizing disturbance to your trees and landscape plants.
Invasive plant management is rarely a one-time project. Established plants may resprout and new seedlings may emerge, but our follow-up treatments can help address this regrowth and provide better long-term control.
Invasive plants aren’t always easy to recognize, especially when they first appear. But because they can spread so rapidly, it’s important to be proactive and secure professional help at the first sign of trouble.
This means you’ll want to contact the AKA Tree Service team if you notice:
The earlier invasive plants are identified and managed, the easier it is to limit their spread. If you’re concerned about unwanted vegetation on your property, our team can identify the plants involved and recommend an appropriate management strategy.
Professional invasive plant management typically costs between $250 and $2,500, though large, heavily infested, or complex properties may cost more. The exact cost of treatment depends on the plants involved, the extent of the infestation, and the management techniques required.
Some of the most important factors affecting the cost include:
Because invasive plant problems vary considerably from one property to the next, an onsite evaluation is the best way to determine the appropriate treatment strategy and cost.

It’s natural to have questions when watching invasive plants take over your property. To help, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about invasive plant management below.
Invasive plants are non-native species that can spread aggressively and cause ecological, environmental, or economic harm. But it’s important to note that not every non-native plant is invasive, so proper identification is important before developing a management plan.
Many invasive plants have characteristics that allow them to survive conventional cutting, mowing, or pulling. Some can resprout from roots or stumps, while others spread rapidly through seeds, runners, vines, or underground structures.
Effectively managing these species often requires you to identify the species involved and select the treatment method that will address the way that particular species grows and reproduces.
You may be able to deal with a handful of invasive plants in some cases, but many species readily resprout from roots, stumps, or other plant material left behind. This means professional assistance is generally required for large or established infestations.
Herbicides may be used as part of an invasive plant management program; in some cases, they’re essentially necessary. Depending on the species and site conditions, treatments may include foliar applications, cut-stump treatments, or basal bark applications.
Our team will evaluate your property and select treatment methods designed to target the unwanted vegetation while protecting desirable plants whenever possible.
Sometimes — particularly when treatment is initiated early. However, established invasive plant problems often require follow-up management.
The best treatment timing depends on the invasive species and the management method being used. Some treatments work best while plants are actively growing, while others can be performed during different portions of the year.
An AKA Tree Service professional can identify the plants involved and recommend an appropriate treatment strategy and timing for your property.
No matter which invasive species is growing on your property or how bad the problem has become, the AKA Tree Service team can help you take back your property from these destructive plants.
Contact our team today and cut with confidence.
